SPORTEC™ 01 RS introduces a completely re-engineered structural design. Built with new-generation materials and layout solutions, the structures deliver enhanced grip feeling, vehicle control and stability, making the tyre ideal for both spirited road riding and track-level performance.
Also the compound adopted translates Metzeler's racing DNA into a street legal tyre: SPORTEC™ 01 RS features a more aggressive compound architecture and delivers a thermal behaviour tailored for riders who demand immediate performance, high-speed stability and precise feedback - whether on the road or pushing limits on the racetrack.
TRACK PERFORMANCE
Racing compounds
Both front and rear feature a K2 carbon black compound in the shoulder areas, designed to deliver high grip during lean and acceleration. Racing-derived are also the base layers under the whole tread at the front and under the shoulders at the rear: they reduce the tire's warm up time to deliver immediate performance and maintain thermal balance to prevent overheating and performance decay during track sessions.
Optimized groove geometry
Shoulder grooves are shorter, counter-angled and shallower, a solution that enhances footprint and lateral grip, reducing warm-up time and enabling near-slick behavior in dry cornering.

The new high-contrast sidewall layout enhances the tire’s visual identity highlighting Metzeler's care for details and commitment to delivering premium products. The bold design reflects its sporty character, adding a distinctive look that matches its high-performance, including the “Blade”, the distinctive element of DYNATREAD™ technology.

At high pace, Dynatread™ technology dynamically closes part of the tread grooves, delivering excellent on-road and on-track performances:
- while braking, the green grooves of the front tire close, improving stability under strong braking forces
- under acceleration, the green grooves of the rear tire compress, increasing the contact patch area, delivering near-slick grip

at low pace, grooves support water evacuation and fast warm-up
SPORTEC™ 01 RS features a lower void/fill ratio than SPORTEC™ 01. This allows the tire to maximize the rubber-to-road contact, hence, increasing dry grip, stability and responsiveness
Key innovation is the introduction of PET as structural material at both front and rear
- Front: rayon is replaced by two layers of PET combined with a 0° steel belt. The use of PET layers enhances rubber deformation control, resulting in a larger contact-patch area and superior stability

Rear: PET is combined with nylon to achieve optimal balance between high grip and agility, delivering superior stability, precise feedback and consistent performance. The structure is reinforced by a 0° steel belt
Dual compound with differentiated scheme across centre and shoulders:
- Central compound (grey area, 40% of the tread) made of full-silica to provide support during upright riding and acceleration
- Shoulders (green area, 30% each) feature a carbon black K2 compound, for high cornering stability and traction under aggressive riding conditions

Racing-derived base layer (blue area, under shoulders) made of carbon black compound - softer than the shoulders 'one - delivers immediate performance even at low temperature, stability and prevents performance decay
Dual compound with differentiated scheme across center and shoulders:
- Central compound (grey area, 30% of the tread) made of full-silica, for enhanced stability under braking and reliable grip at low temperatures
- Shoulders (green area, 35% each) feature a K2 compound made of racing-grade carbon black, for high grip and cornering stability
- Racing-derived base layer (blue area, under whole tread) made of full-silica compound - softer than the layer above - improves warm-up speed, cold performance and prevent overheating on track
