    • 1873 R.F. Metzeler

      1863 - Robert Friedrich Metzeler opened a commercial firm selling rubber and elastic goods in Munich, Germany. Some of Metzeler's early products included technical and surgical articles, sports equipment, toys and weatherproof clothing.

       

      1871 - Metzeler established their first factory for rubber products in Schwanthalerstrasse. By 1887 the factory's capacity was unable to satisfy demand, so a new factory was built. Thanks to new procedures the India rubber processing was revolutionized, it then was granted the patent for this process.
    • The first factory in Munich, Germany

      1890 - Metzeler became leaders in the growing aviation industry, developing a multilevel rubber manufacturing method for linen and cotton fabric. This product was used for balloon, airship and aircraft construction.

      1892 - Metzeler played an important role in tyre development for the bicycle, motorcycle and motor-car industry.

       
    • 1906 Tyre production
      1933 - Metzeler set an impressive achievement in tyre manufacturing by making the first useful tyre using the new synthetic rubber 'buna'.
      1937 - Set the high-speed world record for motorcycles at 279.5 km/h

       
    • 1951 Advertising

      1945 - The factory was completely destroyed during the war. Reconstruction began immediately and in the following years, apart from traditional tyre manufacturing, other activities were developed in the technical rubber segment and for the leisure market.
    • 1965 Metzeler Racing service

      1974 - First low profile tyre in the 80 and 90 series of products.

      1978 - Developed the first tubeless tyre in Europe.

      1978/79 - Metzeler changed its company focus due to economic reasons, and started producing only motorcycle tyres. The Munich manufacturing plant was closed and all of the production was moved into the second Breuberg factory in Odenwald.

       
    • 1983 The Metzeler Belt System is being developed

      1982 -Metzeler developed the first tread pattern with crosswise oriented grooves, instead of the usual lengthwise - the ME 33 Laser.

      1983 - Metzeler introduces the first cross ply tyre with a kevlar belt for mass production. This leads to the introduction of the "MBS" - Metzeler Belt System.

      1986 - Since the 1st January 1986, Metzeler had been a member of the Pirelli Group. A restructuring period of the existing different branches into independent companies took place, and in 1989, Pirelli founded Metzeler Reifen GmbH. In the same year Metzeler introduction of the arrow parabolic tyre to the rear wheel - the ME 1.

      1987 - Metzeler launches the first Silica-tread compound for motorcycle tyres, called "CompK".
    • 1994 World record - Nardo, Italien

      1992 - Metzeler introduces the worldwide first 0° steel belted radial rear tyre for motorcycles - the ME Z1.
      1994 - Metzeler set the motorcycle world record for 24 hours at 246.0 km/h.
      1995 - The Metzeler Quality Management System was certified by DIN EN ISO 9002.
      1996 - Metzeler develops the first 0° steel belted radial front tyre. The ME Z4 was the worldwide first tyre set with the revolutionary 0° steel belted radial technology.

    • Metzeler presents brand new radial racing tires

      2000 Metzeler introduces the new Metzeler ME 880 in the size of 240/40 R 18 to meet the demands of tuners world wide. With a width of 243 millimeters it was the world's widest motorcycle tyre. Furthmore it featured the patented 0° steel belted technology.

       
    • 2003 wide - wider - XXL

      2003 - In order to follow and aticipate the Sport Touring Bikes' evolution, Metzeler itroduces the new reference in the segment: the Roadtec Z6.

      2004 - Metzeler is always seeking ways to improve performance, to get even closer to the perfect lap. This search for perfection that served us well in the creation of the new Road Racing Tyre in compound, the Racetec K.
    • 2005 A sensational comeback in the Enduro WM

      2005 - Introduction in the market of the ultimate Supersport tyre SPORTEC M3 and the extraordinary successfull Enduro F.I.M. tyre MCE 6Days Extreme, developed with World Champion Factory Teams. Further the new Lasertec for mid-sized motorcycles and pre-vintage models and the new Scooter tyre FeelFree.

      2007 - Metzeler renews its Enduro Street segment with the release of Tourance EXP, first Enduro Street tyre with 0° steel belt on the front. Metzeler also wants to expand its presence in the scooter segment with Feelfree Wintec, a tyre for high performance scooters developed according to Metzeler Wintec, the new Metzeler Winter Technology specific for the cold period, to feel even more free.
    • 2008 Wintec-Launch

      2008 - Metzeler introduces the first M+S all-season tires for scooters: the new Feelfree Wintec eliminate the seasonal nature of the scooter. One of its major strengths: safe grip in cold and wet conditions. Furthermore, ME880 custom tyres available in alpha-numeric dimensions for various Harley-Davidson models.

      2009 - Interact Technology: This represents the best possible performance according to the riding style. A new patented carcass with variable tension of the 0° steel belt upgraded the existing Racetec line. This technology was then introduced to the new Metzeler Sportec Interact™ M5 and Roadtec Z8 Interact™ models, providing the maximum on performance and riding safety in the high-quality Supersport and Sport-touring segments.
    • 2012 For the first time a Metzeler tyre with bi-compound mixture

      2010 - The new Super Moto tire Racetec SM replaces its predecessor within the racing product range, while adding the new racing-for-fun Racetec Slick COMPK for amateur riders and trackday use.
      2012 – The refined versions of the Roadtec Z8 Interact, originally launched in 2010, win numerous international magazine tests. The rear tyre of the new (M) and (O) specifications now consists of a bi-compound mixture and the updated front tyre is a 100% silica compound.
